Housings for CCTV cameras are mostly used for protection. They secure devices placed in them (power supply, camera, lens) from unfavorable influence of outdoor conditions.

Dependable on place of usage housings can be categorized on outdoor or indoor. Outdoor housings should not only be waterproof (mostly IP65) but they should maintain right temperature. Positive temperature is obtained through a special heater with thermal regulator. Some housings are additionaly equipped with fans that provide cooling inside i.e. in case of high insolation. When using cameras indoors (stable, positive temperature), but where amount of dirt or humidity is high, the usage of indoor housing, providing air-tightness is recommended.

Important part of choosing housing is esthetics.
