Modern alarm systems are characterized by a wide choice of technical solutions meant to protect the property. Regardless of solution type, each professional alarm system is built out of elements that fulfill same set of functions. Alarm systems core is control panel which functions are: receiving, interpretation and reacting to signals sent by detectors.
Peripheral devices is second group of devices, necessary for building professional alarm system. Peripheral devices can be divided on:
- detection devices (detectors)
- multiple controller systems
- signalization devices (sirens and strobes)
- communication devices (communicators)
Peripheral devices
Alarm detectors are responsible for receiving, initial verification and sending signal to control panel. Those devices can be categorized by detection technologies and processing methods:
- passive infrared detectors (PIR)
- microwave detectors (MW)
- dual technology detectors (PIR + MW, PIR + US, etc.)
- glass break detectors (GB)
- seismic and shock detectors
- magnetic contacts (MC)
- other detectors: fire detectors, gas detectors, etc.
- active infrared detectors (outdoor photoelectric beam detectors)
Passive infrared detectors, dual detectors and photoelectric beam detectors can be found in indoor versions and outdoor versions.
Armed control panel, that receives from detectors right signal, will start alarm, which can be verbalized in few ways. Sirens, strobes and communication devise are responsible for alarm realization. Both of these groups are supposed to inform the designated subjects when the system is in alert state, the difference being that the siren fulfills this function locally - directly in the protected area, while the communicators are responsible for remote transmissions of the information to the chosen receivers outside of the system. Communicators beside sending alarm information are sending information about any (defined) changes of the systems state. Additional advantage of sirens and strobes is the deterring of potential intruders.
